Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What if I've never been to therapy—or therapy hasn't helped as much as I'd hoped?

Whether this is your first experience with therapy or you've tried therapy before, you're welcome here.

Some people come to me because they've spent years in therapy and still feel anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck. Others are reaching out for the very first time because they know something isn't working and they're ready for change.

My goal isn't just to help you understand your experiences. It's to help your brain and body heal from the lasting effects of trauma so you can experience meaningful, lasting change.

How is your approach different from traditional talk therapy?

Traditional talk therapy often focuses on understanding your experiences, changing thought patterns, and learning new coping skills.

My approach also values insight, but it goes a step further by helping your brain and body process the automatic survival responses that can remain long after difficult experiences are over.

Rather than spending every session talking through your week, we'll work together in a way that helps your nervous system heal at a pace that feels gentle, safe, and manageable.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No.

One of the things many people appreciate about this approach is that you don't have to tell your story over and over again.

We'll spend enough time understanding what's important, but the focus is less on retelling painful experiences and more on helping your brain and body process what they may still be carrying today.

We move at a pace that feels respectful of your nervous system.

What should I expect at my first session?

Your first session is about getting to know one another and creating a foundation for our work together.

During our session we will:

  • Talk about what's bringing you to therapy and what you'd like to be different in your life.

  • Review the information needed to understand your concerns without going into the details of your trauma history.

  • Review informed consent, confidentiality, and answer any questions you have.

  • Learn about Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) and how the process works, so you know what to expect in future sessions.

You don't need to have your story organized or know exactly where to begin. We'll take the process one step at a time, at a pace that feels manageable for you.

How often will we meet?

Most clients begin with weekly 55-minute sessions to build a strong foundation and become comfortable with the process.

As therapy progresses, sessions often move to every other week, giving your brain and body time to continue processing and integrating the work between appointments.

When clinically appropriate, 75-minute sessions are available to allow additional time for deeper processing.

Fees

55-minute session: $170

75-minute session: $225

Every person is different, so your treatment plan is tailored to your needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all schedule.

Why are sessions often spaced every other week?

Healing doesn't stop when your session ends.

Many clients notice changes in the days and weeks afterward as their brain and body continue processing what happened during therapy.

Allowing time between sessions often supports deeper, more lasting change instead of feeling like you're starting over each week.

Will I be in therapy for years?

Everyone's healing journey is different, so it's impossible to predict exactly how long therapy will take.

Many clients find they spend less time in therapy overall because our work focuses on creating lasting change rather than simply managing symptoms.

My goal isn't to keep you in therapy indefinitely.

It's to help you feel more connected, more resilient, and able to move through life with greater confidence and freedom.

Do you accept insurance?

I am currently in-network with:

  • Highmark Blue Shield (through December 2027)

  • Capital Blue Cross (through December 2026)

Beginning January 2028, my practice will transition to a private-pay (out-of-network) model.

If you're using insurance now, we'll discuss the transition together so there are no surprises.

What if I have out-of-network benefits?

Many insurance plans offer reimbursement for services provided by a Licensed Professional Counselor.

If applicable, I'm happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company. I recommend contacting your insurer directly to learn about your specific out-of-network benefits.

What if I don't have insurance?

Private-pay clients are welcome.

I accept:

  • Credit and debit cards

  • HSA/FSA cards

Payment is due at the time of your session.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes.

Your privacy is extremely important to me.

Everything you share in therapy is confidential, with the standard legal exceptions required by law, such as concerns about immediate safety or mandated reporting.

Is this the right fit for me?

This approach may be a good fit if you:

  • Have experienced childhood trauma or other overwhelming life experiences.

  • Feel anxious, overwhelmed, emotionally numb, or disconnected.

  • Notice that your past still affects your life today.

  • Are looking for a gentle, structured approach to healing.

If you're unsure, that's completely okay.

A consultation gives us the opportunity to talk about what you're experiencing, answer your questions, and decide together whether this approach feels like the right fit.
