Online DBR Therapy in New Jersey
You understand your patterns. You’re ready to feel a change.
You may be able to explain why certain things affect you and still find yourself bracing for conflict, feeling overwhelmed by someone’s reaction, or going quiet when you want to speak.
Perhaps therapy has helped you understand your experiences, but some responses still feel automatic. That can be frustrating, especially when you’ve worked hard to feel better.
I’m Angie Gutekunst, a Licensed Professional Counselor and the therapist behind Holistic Journey Counseling. I’ve worked with New Jersey clients for years, and I offer online therapy for adults throughout the state. My practice focuses on childhood trauma, attachment wounds, and dissociation, with Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) as my primary approach.
A focused approach to trauma therapy
Difficult experiences can affect how you respond to stress, relationships, and everyday uncertainty long after those experiences have ended.
You might notice that you:
Feel responsible for keeping everyone around you happy.
Become anxious when someone seems disappointed or distant.
Go numb, shut down, or feel disconnected during conflict.
Struggle to feel settled even when things are going well.
Understand your reactions afterward but have difficulty changing them in the moment.
Together, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy and whether DBR fits your needs.
What is Deep Brain Reorienting?
Deep Brain Reorienting is a trauma therapy that pays close attention to the sequence of physical sensations and emotional responses connected with distressing experiences.
During DBR, I guide you in noticing subtle sensations, including tension around the eyes, head, and neck, while we slowly follow what unfolds. You can tell me what you notice, ask questions, or pause at any point.
We take time to prepare for this work. You don’t need a complete account of your childhood or a perfectly organized explanation of what you’re feeling.

Online therapy wherever you live in New Jersey
Whether you live in Short Hills, Montclair, Princeton, Jersey City, or elsewhere in New Jersey, we can meet through secure video appointments.
You’ll need a private, comfortable space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. We’ll discuss how to prepare your space for DBR and what to do if our connection is interrupted.
Telehealth allows you to work with a therapist whose approach fits your needs without adding a commute to your day.
What working together looks like
Our early appointments give us time to understand your history, discuss your goals, and build a working relationship. I’ll explain the DBR process and make room for your questions before we begin.
Sessions generally start at 55 minutes. As treatment progresses, we may meet every other week, with session length and frequency guided by your needs. Extended 75-minute appointments are available when clinically appropriate.
My style is warm, direct, and collaborative. There’s room for difficult feelings, uncertainty, and humor. We’ll pay attention to how you experience the work and adjust our pace together.
Session fees
55-minute session: $170
75-minute session: $225
If you plan to use insurance, please contact me to discuss your plan before scheduling. For clients using out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill to submit for possible reimbursement. Coverage depends on your individual plan.
